Moraine Lake, Banff National Park

Welcome to Moraine Lake, nestled within the mountain ranges called the Valley of the Ten Peaks in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. Turquoise waters and stunning mountain vistas await you at Moraine Lake, creating a picturesque backdrop that will leave you in awe with every turn of the trail or glance across the water's shimmering surface. For families looking to explore this natural gem, there are several hiking options suitable for all ages and skill levels. We hiked a short 15 minutes from the parking lot to the rock pile to avoid the crowd and took our photos.

Safety is key when hiking with kids, so remember to pack essentials like water, snacks, and sunscreen. Dressing in layers and wearing sturdy footwear ensures comfort on the trails. It's also wise to stay on marked paths and be mindful of wildlife in the area.

Private vehicles are not permitted at Moraine Lake all season but our shuttle bus tickets purchased from Parks Canada here offers a lake connector from Lake Louise and back to the Banff town centre. Booking your shuttle in advance is essential to secure your spot and make the most of your visit.

Additionally, private bus tours offer another transportation option, providing guided access and valuable insights into the area's natural history and ecology. Whether you choose the Parks Canada shuttle or a private tour, both offer stress-free travel to and from Moraine Lake (plus Lake Louise!), allowing you to focus on enjoying the breathtaking scenery and memorable family adventures. Depending on your desired activity in both lakes, this tour can be done from one to a few days. Due to time crunch, we only did half day for both lakes since we have reserved Banff Gondola late in the afternoon to the Sulphur Mountain and Sanson's Peak! What we had was just a sampler of all the magnificence we experience in this trip - you cannot simply have one trip to take it all in!

Spot the waterfall!
